In response to growing demand for classification and maritime services across Asia-Pacific, ABS has opened an expanded regional headquarters in Singapore, consolidating its innovation, research, and operational resources under one roof at Science Park Drive.
The new facility serves multiple strategic purposes. It brings together the ABS Singapore Innovation and Research Center, the ABS Global Electrification Center, and one of the organization’s five Global Sustainability Centers. The modern workspace is designed to foster closer collaboration and includes open floor plans, energy-efficient infrastructure, and dedicated spaces for high-level research and development.
Singapore’s position as a maritime hub made the city-state the natural choice for this investment, according to Christopher J. Wiernicki, ABS Chairman and CEO. “ABS has been investing in ensuring our capabilities in Singapore are cutting edge and able to support our clients’ rapidly evolving needs,” said Wiernicki during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Now we have brought them all together under one roof in a truly world class facility designed to foster collaboration and turbo charge our innovation.”
The official opening included a traditional lion dance and reception, with Arnab Ghosh, Arinjit Roy, and Johnny Garrett—senior regional ABS executives—joining Wiernicki at the ceremony.
An important component of the new space is the Operation Support Center, which will play a key role in extending ABS’s remote survey capabilities across the Pacific region. As more vessel owners look for flexibility and real-time compliance support, the ability to provide advanced remote inspection services has become essential. This expansion directly supports that need.
The development also signals a broader shift in how classification societies operate in today’s digital and sustainability-focused maritime environment. With a combined focus on electrification, sustainability, and real-time technical support, ABS is aligning its services with industry priorities such as decarbonization, digitalization, and remote operations.
Rather than spreading out resources across different locations, ABS has opted for a centralized model in Singapore to reduce silos and encourage more efficient internal collaboration. This kind of setup not only benefits internal teams but also translates into better service delivery for ABS clients working across time zones and technical disciplines.
By integrating advanced support services with a strong research backbone, the facility aims to keep pace with the region’s growing demands while keeping safety, innovation, and operational performance front and center.
