In a significant achievement for the energy infrastructure sector, Allelys, a specialized haulier, has successfully transported a crucial component for SSEN Transmission’s Tealing Substation Extension project. The recent delivery marks a pivotal moment in the upgrade of the 275kV east coast transmission network.
The centerpiece of this milestone is a massive 105-tonne ‘super-grid’ transformer, essential for enhancing the substation’s capabilities. Transporting such a heavy and sensitive piece of equipment from Dundee Port to its final destination at Tealing Substation required meticulous planning and collaboration.

SSEN Transmission, alongside partners such as Balfour Beatty plc, Transport Scotland, Amey, Dundee City Council, and Angus Council, orchestrated a complex logistical operation. The effort also involved close coordination with Police Scotland to ensure the safe passage of the transformer, minimizing disruption throughout the transportation process.
“This achievement underscores our commitment to reinforcing the region’s power infrastructure,” stated a spokesperson from SSEN Transmission. “The next steps involve a comprehensive commissioning and testing phase to integrate the transformer securely into the substation.”

The successful transportation and imminent integration of the transformer reflect the industry’s capability to manage and execute large-scale projects effectively. This accomplishment not only enhances the reliability of the east coast transmission network but also highlights the collaborative efforts across multiple stakeholders in delivering critical infrastructure projects.

This milestone sets a precedent in the logistics sectors, showcasing the intricate coordination required for such operations. As the project progresses, stakeholders anticipate further advancements in enhancing energy distribution capabilities along Scotland’s east coast.
