Heavy Cargo Transport from Göteborg to Oxelösund
ALS has executed a complex multi-modal logistics operation to transport a 152-ton back-up roll from Göteborg to Oxelösund, Sweden. The sheer weight of the cargo made conventional road transport unfeasible, requiring an alternative strategy to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
Specialized Handling and Transportation
Faced with the challenge of moving such a massive steel roll, ALS deployed a tandem lift to carefully load the cargo onto a specialized heavy-duty trailer. The trailer was then driven onto a RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) pontoon via a custom-built ramp designed to accommodate the extreme weight. From there, the pontoon was towed along Sweden’s coastline, ensuring minimal disruption to infrastructure while optimizing the efficiency of the move.

Upon arrival in Oxelösund, the cargo was seamlessly offloaded. The truck smoothly exited the pontoon using the same ramp, completing the final leg of the transport process with precision and coordination. The operation showcased the necessity of combining multiple transport modes to navigate logistical constraints effectively.

ALS’ Experience in Heavy Cargo Logistics
This latest steel roll transport is part of ALS’ broader expertise in handling oversized and heavy cargo across international routes. The company has previously executed similar operations, including a high-profile steel roll shipment from the UK to Ohio, USA. These projects underscore ALS’ ability to manage intricate heavy-lift logistics, ensuring timely and secure delivery despite challenging conditions.
By leveraging specialized transport solutions and precise execution, ALS continues to demonstrate its capability in project cargo logistics, adapting to the unique demands of the breakbulk and heavy transport industry.
