[10 September 2024] – AntwerpXL (AXL) 2024 is gearing up to offer fresh perspectives on the critical issues facing the breakbulk market, coupled with invaluable networking opportunities for those involved in breakbulk, project cargo, heavy lift, and RoRo sectors. Hosted at the Antwerp Expo by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the event will take place from October 8 to 10, 2024, right in the heart of Europe’s breakbulk industry. This year’s program aims to tackle current challenges while exploring future trends, focusing on topics such as decarbonisation, emerging fuel types, market forecasts, and strategies to attract the next generation of industry professionals.
Margaret Dunn, Portfolio Director at AXL, emphasized the event’s evolving focus: “AXL 2024 is not just an evolution of our past successes; it represents a significant step forward. From our new chartering course to an expanded focus on the RoRo market and extended networking opportunities, this year’s event is tailored to meet the evolving needs of our industry.”
The RoRo market is indeed a highlight this year, with notable names like Toyota Motor Europe and Associated British Ports set to deliver keynote addresses. Key exhibitors, including Polaris Autoliners, GTT, and Sallaum Lines, will present cutting-edge innovations and solutions. The exhibition space is set to be more dynamic than ever, with fresh participants like CMA CGM, DHL, Globe Group, Africa Ports & Airports, and Sarens, offering a comprehensive view of the industry.
A significant addition to AXL 2024 is a specialised chartering course, scheduled for October 8. This new course will delve into the complexities of chartering within the breakbulk and heavy lift sectors, providing participants with essential knowledge and skills. This educational feature underscores the event’s commitment to not only showcasing innovations but also fostering professional development.
Another key attraction is the tour of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, which will be held at a new location this year—Katoen Natie. Known for its advanced logistics and warehousing capabilities, this facility provides a unique opportunity to gain insights into one of Europe’s most sophisticated logistics hubs.
AXL 2024 also brings back its popular Recruitment Day, scheduled for October 10. In collaboration with TL-Hub, Belgium’s premier recruitment platform for the transport and logistics sector, the event will feature structured speed dating sessions that allow companies to connect with skilled professionals. Eliott Duckers, Managing Director of TL-Hub, noted, “The AXL Job Day offers a practical and efficient way for recruiters to meet potential candidates, further emphasising the event’s role as a vital hub for professional development.”
In response to popular demand, AXL 2024 will offer extended networking hours, including a longer opening day reception and a special brunch in the exhibitor lounge on the final day. These extended hours are designed to provide attendees with more opportunities to forge meaningful connections. Networking highlights also include a Happy Hour and Oyster Party on October 9, sponsored by North Sea Port, followed by an official after-party hosted by Konecranes at Café Den Bengel in central Antwerp.
For those looking to combine fitness with networking, the Business Run on October 8 offers a 4K or 9K route around Antwerp, blending exercise, charity, and professional interaction.
Reflecting its expanding global ambition, AntwerpXL has rebranded to AXL. This shift underscores the event’s commitment to broadening its international reach, a sentiment echoed by the diverse participation anticipated this year. With 95% of exhibition space already booked and considerable interest from new exhibitors, AXL 2024 is set to be a landmark global event. Margaret Dunn added, “While AXL has always been forward-looking, our rebranding reinforces our international focus.”
AXL extends its gratitude to RBH Stevedoring, this year’s lanyard sponsor, and Konecranes, the official registration sponsor, for their invaluable support.
