A high-stakes transport operation unfolded at the Port of Esbjerg, as the team from Blue Water successfully moved a massive 300-tonne blade yoke using their in-house fleet of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs).
Transporting an oversized load like this is never a routine job, and this particular move came with its own set of challenges. At 24 metres long, 10 metres wide, and towering at 17 metres high, the blade yoke had to be maneuvered through extremely tight spaces with clearances as slim as 5 centimetres in some areas.

Precision Planning and In-House Execution
The Blue Water Port Services team took full control of the operation, from transport programming and configuration to executing the entire move with pinpoint accuracy. By relying on their own fleet of SPMTs and conducting all transport calculations in-house, they ensured a seamless and efficient process.
The preparation phase was crucial. A detailed route survey was conducted to identify possible obstacles, and necessary infrastructure modifications were made. Temporary road closures were coordinated to facilitate the transport’s movement across the port. Once everything was in place, the team executed the move efficiently, covering 6 kilometres within the Port of Esbjerg in just 4 hours.

Seamless Loading Onto Installation Vessel
The operation didn’t stop at transport. The following day, the Port Services team also managed the loading of the blade yoke onto a jack-up installation vessel. Ensuring a seamless transition from quayside transport to safe loading, the team demonstrated their ability to handle full-cycle project cargo operations without reliance on third-party logistics providers.
“This operation demonstrated the all-round skills of our Port Service team. They made sure everything went as planned. It is a good example of how our in-house equipment and expertise sets us apart when it comes to handling specialised transport,” said Mathias Juhl, Terminal Manager at Blue Water in Esbjerg.
With this move, Blue Water once again proved its expertise in handling heavy and complex cargo, showcasing its ability to execute large-scale transport operations with precision, efficiency, and safety.
