BOA Secures Contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. for New Heavy-Lift Barges

BOA has officially signed a contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. for the construction of its newly designed BOABARGE 39, with an option for BOABARGE 40. This deal represents a strategic move in BOA’s ongoing efforts to expand its fleet and enhance its capabilities to meet evolving market demands. The first unit, BOABARGE 39, is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026.

The new barges are designed for versatility, engineered to support a broad spectrum of marine and offshore operations. Their robust features and high load-bearing capacity make them ideal for load-out and float-off operations, heavy cargo transportation, drydocking, salvage work, and decommissioning projects. With this latest expansion, BOA aims to strengthen its standing in the project cargo and offshore sectors, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable partner for complex maritime operations.

BOA CEO Ole Bjørnevik emphasized the significance of the contract, stating, “We are excited to partner with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. for the construction of BOABARGE 39. This contract underscores our commitment to providing state-of-the-art solutions for our clients, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the maritime and offshore industry.”

The specifications of the new BOABARGE 39/40 reflect a focus on performance, durability, and efficiency. Each barge will measure 166 meters in length, 73.38 meters in width, and have a depth of 9.15 meters. The submerging capacity is designed to allow for 22.5 meters of water above deck, accommodating a wide range of heavy-lift operations. With an approximate cargo capacity of 57,500 tons and an extreme deck strength of 35 tons per square meter, the new vessels will be well-suited for handling oversized and ultra-heavy loads.

One of the key highlights of the new barges is the integration of a hybrid power system, which combines solar, battery storage, generators, and shore power connectivity. This energy-efficient approach aligns with BOA’s commitment to sustainable operations and reducing environmental impact. Additionally, the inclusion of four removable floatation towers enhances the stability and flexibility of the barges, making them adaptable for various industry applications.

The ballast pump system, with a capacity of 22,500 cubic meters per hour, further enhances the barge’s efficiency in adjusting buoyancy and stability during operations. This feature ensures a seamless transition during submersion and float-off procedures, which are critical for offshore and project cargo operations.

As global demand for specialized heavy-lift solutions continues to grow, BOA’s investment in these state-of-the-art barges demonstrates its proactive approach to staying ahead in the market. The company’s focus remains on delivering reliable, high-performance solutions tailored to the needs of its clients across multiple industries.
