Boskalis to Acquire Remaining Shares in Smit Lamnalco

In a strategic move to consolidate its terminal services portfolio, Royal Boskalis B.V. (Boskalis) has signed an agreement to acquire the remaining 50% shares in Smit Lamnalco. This acquisition solidifies Boskalis’ position in the maritime services sector, building on its expansive operations in dredging and maritime infrastructure.

Smit Lamnalco, a key player in terminal services, reported an impressive annual revenue of approximately USD 275 million and an EBITDA of USD 100 million in 2023. The completion of this transaction is contingent upon meeting customary conditions, including securing regulatory approval, a process that underscores the strategic importance and scale of this acquisition.

Boskalis, headquartered in Papendrecht, has a storied legacy of providing innovative and adaptive solutions to infrastructural challenges in maritime, coastal, and delta regions globally. Their expertise spans coastal defense, riverbank protection, and land reclamation, crucial in combating climate change impacts like extreme weather events and rising sea levels. Additionally, Boskalis supports the development of offshore energy infrastructure, notably renewable wind energy, positioning itself as a crucial player in the transition to sustainable energy sources.

With a robust fleet exceeding 500 vessels and floating equipment, and a workforce of over 11,000 employees, Boskalis is well-equipped to enhance its service delivery and operational efficiency through this acquisition. Their involvement in constructing and maintaining ports, waterways, and access channels plays a vital role in facilitating global trade flows and regional socio-economic development.

Boskalis also boasts expertise in global marine salvage operations, further expanding its capabilities in the maritime domain. The strategic acquisition of Smit Lamnalco, a company with which Boskalis already had a strategic partnership, aligns with its broader vision of creating new horizons and adapting to the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
