On November 1, 2024, Broekman Logistics officially acquired the operations and assets of B.V. Expeditie- en Stuwadoors Maatschappij J.C. Meijers, marking a significant step in the company’s breakbulk activities within the Port of Rotterdam. This acquisition advances Broekman’s role in the “Breakbulk Carousel,” an initiative launched in 2018 by various stakeholders, including the Port of Rotterdam Authority, aimed at bolstering the port’s breakbulk capabilities.
J.C. Meijers, a respected name in Rotterdam’s stevedoring industry, has been under the leadership of Erik Meijers, who has decided to pass on the reins of the terminal operations to JCMB B.V., an affiliate of Broekman Logistics. The terminal spans 19,000 square meters, with a 270-meter quay and an indoor storage space of 3,000 square meters, equipped to handle cargoes up to 120 tons. It also features a rail link, enabling a range of multimodal transport solutions. Broekman Logistics has kept the financial aspects of the deal confidential.
Rob van Dijk, Director of Operations at JCMB B.V., highlighted the strategic value of this acquisition for Broekman, noting, “This acquisition is an important strategic investment for Broekman Logistics, as JCMB is located adjacent to the Broekman Project Services terminal. The expertise and facilities strengthen our position as an industry specialist for breakbulk, heavy lift, and offshore. We look forward to collaborating with the customers and partners of J.C. Meijers.”
This integration is expected to streamline operations and expand services within Rotterdam’s breakbulk sector. Twan Romeijn, Business Manager for Breakbulk and Offshore Industry at the Port of Rotterdam, remarked, “This next step in the Breakbulk Carousel, together with all involved parties, shows that the Port of Rotterdam is strongly committed to the development and modernization of the breakbulk sector.”
Broekman’s move underscores its commitment to comprehensive logistics solutions, including international freight forwarding, terminal storage, and stevedoring services for the Machinery, Industrial, and Chemicals sectors. By strategically expanding its terminal network, Broekman Logistics strengthens its role in Rotterdam’s growing breakbulk market, positioning itself as a leading player in Europe’s busiest seaport.
