CMA CGM Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Terminal at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi

In a significant move for global logistics and trade, CMA CGM Group unveiled its cutting-edge terminal at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi. The inauguration ceremony was a high-profile event attended by Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM, and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council.

This new facility, managed by a joint venture between CMA CGM and Abu Dhabi Ports, represents a leap forward in logistics innovation and sustainability. Positioned as a major gateway for regional and global trade, it reinforces the UAE’s pivotal role in the international supply chain.

The terminal boasts an impressive annual handling capacity of 1.8 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), leveraging advanced technology designed to enhance efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Among its standout features are electric rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) and solar-powered infrastructure, reflecting a firm commitment to decarbonization. Rail connectivity readiness further cements its strategic importance, enabling seamless multimodal transport options for customers.

For the CMA CGM Group, this development builds on a 30-year legacy of operations in the UAE, where the company has firmly established its presence with 737 staff members, eight regional offices, and six ports of call. The terminal aligns with the group’s broader mission to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions for global trade while strengthening its foothold in a region critical to east-west commerce.

The UAE’s status as a global trade hub is underscored by Khalifa Port’s enhanced capabilities. The port is poised to attract even greater volumes of trade, particularly as the Middle East increasingly serves as a crossroads for key shipping routes. By integrating state-of-the-art logistics with sustainability practices, CMA CGM positions itself as a leader driving the future of trade.

As the maritime industry continues to evolve, investments like this signal a profound shift toward more efficient, environmentally conscious operations—delivering not just goods but also a blueprint for the logistics hubs of tomorrow.
