COSCO SHIPPING Lines has introduced the Chancay Express Service 3, known as CHX3, establishing the first scheduled weekly container service linking Peru’s ports of Paita and Chancay with Caldera in Costa Rica. The new route is designed to improve regional cargo flows while strengthening access to long haul services between South America and Asia.
New connection for northern Peru exports
Paita plays an important role as a container and cold chain gateway for northern Peru, serving agricultural, seafood, mining and textile industries across regions including Piura, Lambayeque and Cajamarca. The new CHX3 service allows exporters to move cargo directly from Paita to Chancay, where containers can transfer onto Asia bound mainline services.
For exporters of products such as avocados, grapes and seafood, time often determines product value. Cutting unnecessary inland transport and storage is similar to removing an extra stop from a long distance train journey. Fewer transfers can mean lower costs and greater reliability.
According to COSCO SHIPPING Lines, the service is expected to reduce logistics expenses associated with trucking, warehousing and container demurrage while improving supply chain efficiency for refrigerated cargo.
Costa Rica gains direct regional link
The weekly service also provides Costa Rica’s Pacific gateway at Caldera with a direct connection into the Chancay hub. This offers exporters and importers a more predictable route into COSCO SHIPPING Lines’ Asia network.
The carrier said the new service is intended to shorten transit times, improve schedule reliability and provide customers with greater delivery certainty across regional and international supply chains as cargo volumes continue shifting toward the Port of Chancay.
