Daniel Mann Joins bound4blue as CCO to Propel Wind-Assisted Propulsion Technology

Bound4blue, a leader in Wind Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS), has announced the appointment of Daniel Mann as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). The move underscores the company’s ambition to solidify its position in the maritime industry’s rapidly growing wind propulsion segment.

Mann brings over 25 years of experience in maritime and energy sectors, including notable tenures at Rolls-Royce Marine, Siemens, MAN Energy Solutions, and most recently, as VP of Business Development at Silverstream Technologies. His extensive background positions him well to advance bound4blue’s innovative vision.

Driving the Wind Revolution

At the core of bound4blue’s success is its revolutionary eSAIL®, a DNV Type Approved suction sail technology that autonomously generates propulsive force by drawing air across its optimized surface. This cutting-edge system offers shipowners an effective solution to reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and achieve regulatory compliance—all while contributing to the decarbonization of global shipping.

Mann expressed his enthusiasm for joining the company:

“The WAPS niche is expanding rapidly, with wind increasingly recognized as pivotal to a greener maritime future. bound4blue is the leader in suction sail technology, and I see an unparalleled opportunity to help the business capitalize on its market potential.”

Gaining Momentum

The adoption of eSAIL® is accelerating, with prominent shipping companies such as Maersk Tankers, Eastern Pacific Shipping, and Louis Dreyfus Company signing installation contracts. The technology, praised for its simplicity and adaptability, is compatible with various vessel types—from tankers to ferries—and suits both retrofits and new builds.

David Ferrer, CTO and co-founder of bound4blue, highlighted the company’s readiness for growth:

“We have a proven solution delivering measurable financial and environmental benefits. With rising regulatory pressures and increasing awareness of WAPS, conditions are ideal for scaling eSAIL® adoption. Daniel’s expertise will be key in unlocking new opportunities and strengthening our market presence.”

Ready for the Challenge

Available in three models ranging from 12 to 36 meters, eSAILs® also feature optional tilting mechanisms to ensure operational flexibility. They help vessels improve their Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) ratings, enhance Energy Efficiency Design and Existing Ship Indexes (EEDI and EEXI), and align with evolving regulations like FuelEU Maritime and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

As bound4blue navigates this exciting chapter, Mann’s leadership aims to steer the company toward deeper market penetration and heightened customer engagement. The green shipping revolution, it seems, is just getting started.
