DEME Ships Monopiles with SAL

SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Svenja was in Rostock, Germany this week, loading some huge monopiles for DEME Group for the Hornsea 2 Project.

DEME Group has employed SAL’s MV Svenja to optimize the logistic chain for the Hornsea 2 project. The vessel will be involved in seven trips with a total of 21 monopiles.

The large monopiles measure 74 m with a diameter of 9.5 m.

Offshore works for what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm have been ramping up recently. Ørsted’s Hornsea 2 will surpass its predecessor Hornsea 1 by generating 1.4 GW of clean energy once complete in 2022.

Monopile works have commenced at the wind farm location 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in the UK with DEME’s offshore installation vessel ‘Innovation’.
