deugro Delivers a Well Fluid Slug Catcher to UAE

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, August 7, 2024 – In a remarkable logistical feat, deugro Oman, in collaboration with deugro UAE, successfully transported a massive well fluid slug catcher from Nizwa, Oman to Mina Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The equipment, measuring 28.20 x 6.5 x 7.0 meters and weighing 254 metric tons, was safely delivered despite the complex challenges posed by its size and weight.

deugro secured this project due to their expertise in technical transport solutions and their ability to meet tight deadlines with precise ocean freight options. The company coordinated an extensive route survey, along with detailed plans for transport, stability, lashing, and lifting. Regular technical meetings with the client and dteq Transport Engineering Solutions (dteq) were integral to the project’s success.

The journey began in Nizwa, southeastern Oman, where the cargo was picked up. Although the Port of Sohar was geographically closer, the route survey deemed the Port of Duqm as the optimal departure point to minimize the need for extensive route modifications and civil work.

“The biggest challenge was the pre-carriage from the cargo pick-up location in the Nizwa Industrial Estate to the Port of Duqm, Oman. Due to the cargo’s dimensions and weight, the identification of the best-suited route and any potential obstacles such as low bridges, narrow roads, road crossings, and overhead signboards was vital to ensure safe and on-time delivery,” explained Deepak Fernandes, Transport Engineer at dteq Transport Engineering Solutions, UAE.

Under the meticulous supervision of dteq, the slug catcher was securely loaded onto a multi-axle hydraulic trailer. A site survey, conducted in collaboration with the heavy hauler and the client, ensured all procedures were thoroughly discussed and planned. The 700-kilometer road journey to the Port of Duqm involved minor and major route modifications, including soil leveling, pothole filling, pole and signboard removal, and road guard rail adjustments.

“High wind speeds and sandstorms between Nizwa, Ghaba, Qarn Alam, Haima, and Duqm along the route meant great caution was essential to ensure the safety of the workers and the cargo. Therefore, during the journey, we provided daily status updates for all parties involved,” noted Shaheen Sherif, Operations Manager at deugro Muscat.

After five days, the slug catcher arrived at the Port of Duqm. The local deugro team ensured the equipment was loaded onto the heavy lift vessel with centimeter-precision using the vessel’s cranes. Following meticulous lashing in accordance with dteq’s method statements, the vessel set sail to Mina Zayed Port, Abu Dhabi. Upon arrival, the slug catcher was unloaded onto SPMTs under the supervision of deugro UAE, ready for the final leg of its journey.

This impressive logistical operation highlights deugro’s commitment to precision, safety, and client satisfaction, setting a high standard in the project freight and logistics industry.
