Dropfall Incident aboard AEGIR at OWF Taiwan

Heerema has reported that their heavy lift vessel Aegir experienced a dropfall incident while installing a pin pile at a new offshore wind farm site off the coast of Taiwan this week.

On June 15, at 16.42 (local time), Heerema’s Heavy Lift Vessel Aegir experienced a dropfall incident off the coast of Taiwan. According to Heerema, there were no injuries as a result of the incident, and no environmental impact has occurred.

The offshore company say that the piling frame and pin pile are not damaged, and the hammer has been retrieved and is back on Aegir’s deck.

Work had just started on this project, and currently, foundation installation has been temporarily paused pending investigation. The exact cause of the incident is yet unknown and will be the subject of a thorough investigation.

The incident took place in Taipower Company’s Phase 1 offshore wind project. Aegir is in charge of installing 21 jacket foundations at the 109.2 MW Changhua Phase 1 offshore wind project some 8km off the coast.
