Etihad Cargo Expands European Network with New Madrid Service

Etihad Cargo is set to launch a new twice-weekly Boeing 777 freighter service between Abu Dhabi and Madrid next month, enhancing its European network and boosting e-commerce connectivity from Asia to Europe via its Abu Dhabi hub.

Recognizing Madrid’s significance as a “key European fashion hub,” this new route aims to strengthen Etihad Cargo’s presence in Spain, increasing its total flights to the country to 25 per week. This includes belly capacity on 10 Etihad Airways passenger flights to Madrid, 10 to Barcelona, and three seasonal flights to Malaga as part of the summer schedule.

Starting July 15, flights will depart from Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) on Mondays and Wednesdays, with return flights from Madrid on Mondays and Thursdays.

Customers can also look forward to additional bellyhold capacity as part of the summer schedule. This includes two weekly seasonal flights to Nice, an increase in flights to Athens to 14 per week (including two via Mykonos and two via Santorini), and a new route to Antalya with three weekly flights. Moreover, flights to Istanbul will rise from ten to 14 per week starting July 22, and Dublin will receive three more flights from July 23, totaling ten per week.

Etihad Cargo’s European freighter network is already extensive, with six weekly flights to Amsterdam and three weekly flights to Frankfurt. The addition of Madrid brings the total number of freighter flights to Europe to 11 per week.

Stanislas Brun, vice president cargo at Etihad Cargo, commented, “Launching Madrid as Etihad Cargo’s latest European freighter destination supports the growing demand for e-commerce flows between Asia and Europe. Madrid’s role as a key fashion hub makes it an essential destination for the carrier’s freighter network.”

This expansion demonstrates Etihad Cargo’s commitment to enhancing its service offerings and meeting the increasing demand for reliable cargo transportation across key European destinations.
