F.H. Bertling Logistics – gas turbine delivery to Germany

On Friday the 9 Sept, 2022, F.H. Bertling Logistics delivered a gas turbine package and a generator from Sweden to a thermal power station in Bonn, Germany.

Bertling’s scope began with the takeover of the equipment from “free alongside ship” Norrkoping and ended with being placed on the foundations in the turbine hall. The special challenges were the very low level of the river Rhine at the time of shipment, the partially old/weak road infrastructure within the city of Bonn as well as the total transport height of over 6 meters and the very limited space in front of and within the turbine hall. For the river transport, a “nutshell” was used having 57m total length and 681 metric tons payload only. For the on-carriage transport from the river port to the power plant static bridge calculations had to be provided to the road authorities, plenty of overhead tram lines had to be pushed up and other demanding traffic steering measurements, as well as driving maneuvers, were necessary.

Finally, for the 8 km long transport route, two nights were required. After arrival at the power plant the equipment was reloaded to special SPMT type SEFIRO, transferred into the turbine hall and placed onto the foundation. All transport steps were carefully planned, organized, and supervised by the Bertling offices in Gothenburg and Neuss.
