Final Five STS Cranes Delivered to Damietta Alliance Container Terminal

Damietta, Egypt – The arrival of five state-of-the-art Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes at the Damietta Alliance Container Terminal (DACT) marks another step forward in Egypt’s ambition to strengthen its position as a key maritime hub in the East Mediterranean. These units bring the total to twelve STS cranes on site, underscoring DACT’s commitment to building a modern, efficient gateway for regional and global container traffic.

The new cranes—manufactured to handle ultra-large container vessels—are designed to meet the technical demands of next-generation maritime trade. Their advanced automation features and increased lifting capacity position DACT to process the world’s largest boxships with faster turnaround times and higher precision. This capability is increasingly crucial as ship sizes continue to grow and operational windows tighten across major trade routes.

By deploying this final batch, DACT is preparing to operate at full capacity ahead of its full commercial launch. The facility has already begun preliminary operations and is expected to significantly reduce pressure on existing Egyptian terminals. With enhanced loading and unloading speeds, the terminal aims to attract both direct calls from Asia and transshipment traffic from Europe, Africa, and the Levant.

A spokesperson from Damietta Alliance stated that these additions are part of a larger plan to build a high-efficiency terminal with sustainability built into its DNA. The STS cranes, equipped with energy-efficient systems and remote operation capabilities, will help reduce the port’s carbon footprint while supporting safer and more ergonomic working conditions for crane operators.

With the infrastructure now in place, DACT is on track to become a preferred stop for shipping alliances seeking reliability, cost efficiency, and strategic location. The East Med continues to attract attention as shipping lines optimize their networks and reroute vessels to avoid longer transits or regional disruptions.
