Global Shipping Services (GSS) recently undertook a complex logistics project for Disney Orlando, meticulously transporting specialized “people movers” for the amusement park. This unique operation demanded exceptional attention due to the specific design and technical requirements of the cargo. The people movers, powered by large 220-kilogram lithium batteries, required strict safety measures throughout the journey to meet Dangerous Goods (DG) handling protocols.
Each unit, containing sensitive materials and precise machinery, was picked up from Rotterdam and prepped for its journey to the U.S. by GSS using custom trailers designed to accommodate the weight and structural needs of these battery-operated vehicles. Handling such large lithium batteries—known for their sensitivity to movement and temperature—meant that extra precautions were taken at every stage. The team ensured that each unit was securely crated and reinforced to prevent any damage or potential hazard en route.
Adhering to international DG compliance protocols, the units were carefully crated and loaded onto 40-foot flat racks, allowing for stability and safety during ocean transport. The journey from Rotterdam to Port Everglades marked just the beginning. Upon arrival, GSS arranged for transloading at Port Everglades, followed by direct delivery to Disney Orlando, underscoring GSS’s commitment to streamlined, end-to-end logistics management.
This project is far from over. With 32 additional units scheduled for transport, GSS is prepared to replicate its rigorous handling procedures to maintain consistency and reliability with each shipment. The team’s experience with complex, high-stakes cargo management reinforces their standing as specialists in project freight and logistics, ensuring that each people mover will reach Disney Orlando safely and on time.
