Hanseatic Global Terminals signs SANY equipment agreement for new Aracruz container terminal

Hanseatic Global Terminals and Grupo Imetame have signed an agreement with SANY Marine to supply the main container handling equipment for their new greenfield container terminal in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, marking another step forward in the development of the Brazilian port project.

The agreement covers the delivery of Ship to Shore cranes and Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes for Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz, a terminal currently under development on Brazil’s east coast. The project was officially established in June 2026 as a 50 50 joint venture between Hanseatic Global Terminals and Grupo Imetame.

Container terminals rely on cranes in much the same way an airport depends on its runways. Without them, cargo simply cannot move efficiently.

The new equipment will provide the operational foundation for the terminal once construction is completed. The partners said the investment has been designed to support safe operations, improve productivity, and provide capacity for future cargo growth.

Dheeraj Bhatia, Chief Executive Officer of Hanseatic Global Terminals, said the agreement represents an important milestone in delivering a terminal capable of supporting customers while contributing to regional economic development.

He said the addition of modern equipment would enable safe and efficient operations from the first day of service and reflects the company’s continued investment in infrastructure and terminal capabilities.

Gilson Pereira, Director of Grupo Imetame, said selecting SANY reflects the partners’ focus on safety, quality, reliability, and meeting project schedules.

He added that the development is expected to strengthen Espírito Santo’s role as a port hub by supporting the return of long distance shipping services while increasing Brazil’s container handling capacity.

For SANY Marine, the agreement expands its presence in one of Latin America’s growing port markets.

Chairman Zhou Guoyuan said the contract demonstrates confidence in the company’s technology and project execution capabilities, adding that the supplied cranes are intended to support productive and reliable terminal operations.

Located on Brazil’s eastern coastline, the Aracruz terminal is planned to serve both regional import and export cargo and international transshipment services.

The joint venture expects the facility to improve access to global shipping routes while strengthening logistics connections across the region. The project forms part of wider investment in Brazil’s port infrastructure as operators prepare for future trade growth and increasing demand for container handling capacity.
