JSI Alliance successfully concluded its scope of work in the Basrah Refinery Upgrading Project for JGC Corporation. The completion, marked by the discharge of 9 modules from MV Svenja on 11 March, underscores the Alliance’s prowess in managing large-scale, complex projects.
The success of the endeavor can be attributed to the Alliance’s holistic approach, combining in-house engineering, project management, QSHE (Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment), and a seasoned crew. Such a comprehensive strategy facilitated seamless execution, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
Flexible Fleet. Adaptive Approach.
Central to the project’s execution were two vessels: Jumbo Kinetic, equipped with two 1,500-ton cranes, and MV Svenja, boasting two 1,000-ton cranes. These vessels, chosen for their lifting and transportation capabilities, navigated the challenges of accessing the restricted Morimatsu plant in Nantong where the cargo was loaded. Additionally, other vessels from the JSI Alliance fleet played supportive roles, demonstrating the versatility and synergy within the fleet.
By leveraging its pooled resources, the Alliance offered a flexible service, enabling the selection of vessels tailored to specific requirements without compromising support for other clients. This approach facilitated uninterrupted workflow and optimized resource utilization throughout the project duration.
Efficiency Gains
JSI’s commitment to efficiency was evident in various initiatives undertaken during the project. Investments in HPME rigging and increased onboard crew complement were key measures to enhance operational efficiency. Moreover, the development of a simple yet effective enhancement to the lifting frame expedited the loading process, contributing to overall productivity gains.
Over time, the project witnessed a remarkable increase in efficiency, with module transportation escalating from one module per day initially to nine modules over a six-day period towards the project’s conclusion.
Boosting Safety
Safety remained paramount throughout the project, with close collaboration among JSI Alliance partners fostering a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement. Post-voyage debriefs facilitated the exchange of insights and best practices, further reinforcing safety protocols and procedures.
