Tuzla, Turkey – The keel laying of the 136-meter sailing RoRo vessel, NEOLINER ORIGIN, NB128, was successfully carried out on February 14, 2024, at RMK MARINE Shipyard. The event, marked by a modest yet significant ceremony, represents a crucial phase in the construction of this revolutionary ship, which aims to redefine sustainable maritime transport.

The first stage of the vessel’s production began just two months ago with the steel-cutting process, and within an impressive timeframe, RMK MARINE’s experienced shipbuilders completed the first block necessary for this milestone. This rapid progress showcases the expertise and efficiency of the yard’s workforce, as they forge ahead in bringing this innovative wind-powered cargo vessel to life.
A Game-Changer for Sustainable Shipping
During the ceremony, Gürkan Türkeş, CEO of RMK MARINE, expressed pride in being part of a project that pushes the boundaries of modern shipbuilding. He emphasized the vessel’s ability to cut harmful gas emissions by over 80% compared to conventional ships of similar size by utilizing wind energy as the primary propulsion system. “Thanks to these cutting-edge technologies, we are making a tangible impact on sustainability for the future of our planet,” Türkeş stated.
The NEOLINER ORIGIN is a first-of-its-kind, designed by the French ship design firm MAURIC, and built with the goal of sailing more than 80% of its route using wind power. This ambitious initiative aligns with the global push for greener shipping solutions, as the industry seeks to reduce its environmental footprint.
NEOLINE’s Confidence in RMK MARINE
Representing the ship’s owner, NEOLINE President Jean Zanuttini took the stage to commend RMK MARINE’s work planning, order, and quality. He emphasized the efficient cooperation between stakeholders under the yard’s management and expressed confidence in the ship’s progress. “We are proud and happy that the construction of this vessel, a world-first in its category, is moving forward with concrete steps in line with the plan,” Zanuttini remarked.
Following the speeches, the lifting operation of the first completed block was carried out using RMK MARINE’s gantry crane, remotely controlled by NEOLINE’s Technical Manager, Guilhem Pean. The successful execution of this phase reflects the meticulous planning and technical expertise guiding the vessel’s construction.
On Track for 2025 Delivery
The NEOLINER ORIGIN is set for launch in December 2024, with final delivery scheduled for June 2025. Once completed, the vessel will operate on a transatlantic route between Europe and North America, offering a sustainable alternative for roll-on/roll-off cargo transportation.
