The keel-laying ceremony for UECC’s first of three LNG Battery Hybrid powered PCTC took place at Jiangnan Shipyard, Shanghai, China this week.
As previously reported by BBN, European Car Carriers (UECC), jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, signed a contract to construct three new generation PCTC (Pure Car/Truck Carrier) with China Ship Building Trading Co., Ltd and Jiangnan Shipyard Group Co. Ltd. back in 2019.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, there were no representative from the UECC head office in Oslo, Norway attending the ceremony this week. However, the ceremony was attended by UECC’s on site team; Wengang Zhou, Zhang Yuan and Wu Zheng Wei.
UECC’s CEO, Glenn Edvardsen says UECC has big ambitions, “Yet another milestone has taken place in UECC’s massive investment in sustainable new vessels. UECC’s commitment to carbon intensity reduction is as strong as ever, and with these 3 new vessels in our fleet, along with our 2 existing dual-fuel LNG PCTCs, UECC will go beyond IMO’s target of 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030”.
