In a move that further consolidates its position in the European road logistics sector, Kuehne+Nagel has entered into an agreement to acquire TDN (Transporte y Distribución Nacional), a Madrid-based company known for its robust road groupage network across Spain and Portugal.
With the planned acquisition, Kuehne+Nagel aims to strengthen its groupage capabilities and broaden its footprint on the Iberian Peninsula. The deal will see TDN, which handled over one million shipments in 2024, become fully integrated into the Swiss logistics giant’s existing operations. The agreement is expected to close in the coming weeks, subject to regulatory approval.
TDN, established as a key national logistics player, brings a network of 45 terminals, a fleet of 700+ partner vehicles, and over 200 daily routes spanning mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and Portugal. With over 600 employees, TDN’s scale and geographic reach add considerable weight to Kuehne+Nagel’s European service offering.
“TDN is a local champion with a comprehensive road groupage network in Spain,” said Hansjörg Rodi, Executive Vice President, Road Logistics at Kuehne+Nagel. “Combined with our existing network, we will be better equipped to serve our European customers with competitive lead times and an increased frequency of departures to and from the Iberian Peninsula. This aligns with our strategic growth initiatives and adds value to our existing business.”
The integration will focus on merging both companies’ operational strengths while preserving talent across both organizations. The aim is to deliver more comprehensive logistics solutions for customers and streamline services across Europe.
Susana Fernández Paradela, President of TDN, emphasized the cultural and operational alignment between the two companies: “Both TDN and Kuehne+Nagel are strongly committed to entrepreneurship and service excellence, and our road freight networks are highly complementary. With this great cultural and operational fit, we look forward to serving our customer base with more comprehensive logistics solutions and create new opportunities for career growth for our colleagues.”
For Kuehne+Nagel, the deal is expected to be immediately earnings accretive and fully complementary to its existing Road Logistics business. It also represents a significant step in solidifying its leadership position in European groupage services — a sector increasingly vital amid rising demand for efficient, intra-European freight solutions.
The move underscores a broader trend of consolidation and regional expansion within the European logistics landscape, as operators aim to optimize networks and improve service resilience in the face of evolving trade patterns and shifting customer expectations.
Once finalized, the integration of TDN will be closely watched across the sector, especially as Kuehne+Nagel continues its strategy of bolstering regional infrastructure while enhancing pan-European connectivity.
