LASO opens Algeciras subsidiary to expand international transport network

LASO Transportes S.A. has opened a new subsidiary in Algeciras, Spain, as the specialised transport company expands its international network and strengthens its access to new markets.

The new location is intended to increase LASO’s operational capacity while placing the company closer to customers, partners and cargo flows moving through southern Spain. Algeciras is a strategic logistics gateway linking European, Mediterranean and North African markets, making the city a practical base for companies involved in international transport and project cargo operations.

LASO said the subsidiary forms part of its wider growth strategy and will support a faster and more efficient response to customer requirements.

The Algeciras operation extends LASO’s physical presence in a region shaped by major maritime and overland trade routes. For specialised transport providers, proximity can be as important as fleet capacity. A local team can shorten communication lines, improve planning and respond more quickly when cargo schedules, port conditions or project requirements change.

The company did not disclose the size of the new subsidiary, its staffing levels or the amount invested in the facility. It also did not specify which cargo sectors or trade lanes would be prioritised from the new location.

However, the expansion is expected to strengthen coordination between LASO’s transport operations and customers using Algeciras as an entry or departure point for international cargo.

How much difference can a local base make? In specialised logistics, where route surveys, permits, escorts and equipment availability must be coordinated carefully, being closer to the cargo can reduce unnecessary delays and improve operational control.

LASO described the opening as another step in the development of a broader and more integrated international network. The company said the expanded structure would help it meet future transport challenges while maintaining its focus on safety, operational quality and innovation.

The new subsidiary also gives LASO an additional platform from which to support partners operating across the Iberian Peninsula and nearby international markets. Algeciras offers road connections into Spain and the wider European market, alongside maritime links serving destinations across the Mediterranean and beyond.

Specialised transport companies are increasingly required to combine local knowledge with international project management. Heavy and oversized cargo movements often involve multiple jurisdictions, infrastructure constraints and strict delivery schedules. A wider office network can therefore support both commercial development and day to day execution.

LASO said it would continue to develop specialised transport solutions through its expanding network, with the Algeciras subsidiary strengthening the company’s ability to serve customers and partners from a key southern European logistics location.
