Liege Airport (LGG) has reported a strong performance in the third quarter of 2025, recording a 23% increase in freight volumes compared to the same period last year. The Belgian gateway, already recognized as the fifth-largest cargo airport in Europe and the continent’s largest full-freighter hub, continues to strengthen its position in the air cargo sector.
According to CEO Laurent Jossart, Liege Airport handled 334,956 tons of cargo between July and September 2025, up from 272,210 tons during the same period in 2024. Year-to-date, the airport’s tonnage grew by 14.4%, driven by a combination of resilient export activity and rising e-commerce volumes on the import side.
Aircraft movements also increased by 9% year-on-year, totaling 7,262 flights for the quarter, compared to 6,691 flights in 2024. This uptick reflects both higher operational efficiency and sustained demand for air cargo capacity across Europe.
Strength in E-Commerce and Exports
The Q3 results underline Liege Airport’s growing importance as a logistics hub for both European exporters and global e-commerce players. Imports linked to online retail continue to generate steady cargo flows, while exports saw a 26% year-on-year rise in the last quarter.
“Our air cargo community has shown remarkable resilience and collaboration,” said Laurent Jossart. “The combination of strong European exports and healthy e-commerce imports has been key to maintaining our growth trajectory.”
Europe’s Leading Full-Freighter Airport
Over the first nine months of 2025, Liege Airport processed 961,640 tons of air cargo, surpassing all other European airports in terms of full-freighter operations. The airport continues to lead in three core segments: flowers, e-commerce, and live animal transport—particularly horses, for which LGG is a recognized global hub.
“This milestone consolidates our leadership as Europe’s leading full-freighter airport,” Jossart added. “It also validates our long-term commitment to efficient, sustainable, and multimodal logistics.”
A Consistent Upward Trend
Data from France Aviation Civile Services (FRACS) further supports Liege Airport’s upward trend. Between 2019 and 2024, LGG ranked among the top five airports worldwide for cargo growth, registering an impressive 29% increase over the period.
This performance underscores the airport’s continued investment in infrastructure, partnerships, and sustainable logistics strategies—elements that have positioned LGG as a key player in the global freight network.
Liege Airport remains the only European airport to adopt a “#freightersfirst” policy, giving priority to cargo operations over passenger traffic. Its focus spans perishables, pharmaceuticals, medical and humanitarian supplies, express parcels, and live animal shipments.
With solid growth momentum, increasing export flows, and its unique cargo-focused model, Liege Airport is reinforcing its reputation as a cornerstone of Europe’s air logistics network.
