In a major development aimed at bolstering South Korea’s expanding offshore wind industry, Mammoet, the global leader in heavy lifting and transport, has entered into a strategic partnership with Samyang Marine Group. This collaboration is designed to create a comprehensive network of Offshore Service Port (OSP) facilities to serve a wide range of projects across South Korea, with a primary focus on the burgeoning offshore wind sector.
The partnership plans to establish state-of-the-art OSPs at the ports of Busan and Masan. These facilities will provide a full spectrum of terminal management services, including handling, staging, marshaling, and stevedoring, alongside heavy lifting and installation capabilities. This integration is seen as critical to supporting not only South Korea’s projects but also the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Why is this partnership so significant? The answer lies in the growing demand for specialized logistics, handling, construction, and installation services that are vital for the success of offshore wind farms. As South Korea moves to meet its ambitious renewable energy targets, including 14.3GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 under the Renewable Energy 3020 plan, the readiness and efficiency of its supply chain are paramount.
Mammoet’s proven track record in delivering high-profile projects like Hywind Tampen, Seagreen, Greater Changhua, and WindFloat Atlantic makes it a key player in addressing these needs. Their experience and expertise in heavy lifting and transport will be crucial in overcoming the logistical challenges posed by the rapid development of offshore wind projects in the region.

Mr. S.C. Roe, Chairman of Samyang Marine Group, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “South Korea’s offshore wind sector holds immense potential, and our partnership with Mammoet brings together local and international expertise to provide comprehensive solutions for the industry. Together, we will deliver world-class services to support the construction and operation of offshore wind farms, driving the sector’s growth.”
Jack van den Brink, Managing Director of Mammoet Projects AMEA, echoed this sentiment, noting, “We’re excited to collaborate with Samyang Marine Group to address the critical challenges in South Korea’s offshore wind market. With a strong track record of successful projects in Korea, including S-Oil’s Onsan refinery, the jacking of a 42,780-ton Arkutun Dagi topside at Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, and our recent jacking scope for Hailong Offshore Wind Farm project, this partnership is all about leveraging our combined strengths to create value and foster the growth of renewable energy in the region.”
By combining Mammoet’s world-renowned expertise in heavy lifting and logistics with Samyang Marine Group’s deep-rooted local knowledge and extensive terminal operations, this strategic alliance is set to significantly enhance South Korea’s offshore wind supply chain capabilities. It will play a critical role in meeting the country’s renewable energy objectives, ensuring that the right infrastructure and services are in place to support the construction of offshore wind farms efficiently and effectively.
