Massive Bridge Moved on the Maas

On Monday, tug boats moved a massive bridge along the Maas River to its new temporary home in Rotterdam.

The new Suurhoff Bridge was floated on pontoons from its construction site under the raised sections of several other bridges along the way. It is 200 metres (656-feet)-long, 20 metres (65 feet) wide, and has a 40 metre (131 feet) high arch.

The bridge will be placed near the old Suurhoff Bridge, which will undergo renovation. It is used to carry traffic to and from the Maasvlakte port area.

It will be maneuvered into place over the coming days before being opened to traffic to allow engineers to renovate the existing Suurhoff bridge.
