MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has embarked on a significant new venture with the groundbreaking of its MEDLOG Inland Terminal Paris-Bruyères. This project, located in the Paris region, represents a crucial part of a broader renovation effort at the Port 2000 site in Le Havre, which aims to bolster rail and barge connections for the region’s importers and exporters.
The TN MSC Port 2000 project, led by MSC’s port investment group TIL, underscores Le Havre’s importance as a gateway in Northwest Europe. This initiative is a monumental investment, targeting the handling of one million TEUs annually by 2027 and the creation of over 1,000 jobs. HAROPA PORT awarded this strategic site to TIL in 2022 following a competitive bidding process.
The MEDLOG Inland Terminal (Paris-Bruyères) is not just about infrastructure; it’s a stride towards logistics decarbonization. Currently, goods in the region are primarily transported by road. This new terminal will shift a significant portion of that traffic to rail and barge, relegating trucks to last-mile deliveries. This shift is expected to significantly cut road miles and associated carbon emissions, aligning with broader environmental goals.
Philippe Lestrade, CEO of MSC France SAS, highlights the importance of this project: “The MEDLOG Inland Terminal Paris-Bruyères multimodal terminal is a landmark project for MSC, and we are very proud of it. It will provide an economic boost for the region, increasing containerization and raising productivity, as well as providing more direct access to MSC’s global network for customers in the Paris and Greater East region. It will also support HAROPA PORT’s ambition to create a green logistics corridor along the Seine.”
Set for completion in 2024, the terminal will extend MSC’s and MEDLOG’s service offerings beyond the typical port terminal capabilities. These services will include container maintenance and repair, liquid cargo solutions, project cargo handling, and container refurbishment for food-grade exports. This comprehensive service suite ensures streamlined container evacuation, secure end-to-end oversight from Le Havre to Paris-Bruyères, and reduced need for intermediaries, enhancing operational efficiency and cutting transit times.
The MEDLOG Inland Terminal Paris-Bruyères stands as a testament to MSC’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in logistics. By integrating advanced multimodal transport solutions, MSC is paving the way for a more efficient and environmentally friendly logistics network, benefiting both the economy and the environment.
