Specialist transport company Mammoet moved NASA’s Lunar Lander training capsule from the Mississippi Welcome Center in Mississippi, USA, to a new position at the Infinity Science Center (ISC) next door.
Mammoet used a 250 tonne crane to lift the 6 meter tall moon lander. It weighed 4,500 lbs (2 tonnes) and was lifted over the roof of the ISC.
The Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 crane positioned the capsule in front of the ISC, where it will remain on public display next to the Apollo 19 Saturn V rocket.
Made from military-grade aluminum, the capsule was used to train NASA astronauts for missions to the moon.
Mammoet has transported several iconic loads for NASA over the years, including the Apollo 4 capsule from the NASA Stannis Space Center. The 3.3 m tall command module was the first unmanned “all-up” test flight of the Saturn V rocket and spacecraft.
