Norwegian Electric Systems to Equip Eight Newbuild Bulk Carriers for Wilson ASA

Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) has secured a pivotal contract to supply integrated power solutions for eight state-of-the-art bulk carriers commissioned by Wilson ASA, Europe’s foremost short sea fleet operator. The vessels, meticulously designed by Conoship International and under construction at Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited, mark a new chapter in maritime innovation and environmental responsibility.

These ships are tailored for energy efficiency and operational versatility, targeting a reduced carbon footprint while navigating European coastal waters. NES’s advanced systems package will include main generators, transformers, DC switchboards, propulsion and bow thruster motors, as well as comprehensive propulsion and thruster control systems. The integration of these technologies is expected to significantly optimize fuel consumption and minimize emissions, aligning perfectly with the growing industry emphasis on sustainability.

“This is the first time we are collaborating with Udupi Cochin Shipyard and Wilson. This contract represents some of the expansion and growth we have been striving for over the past two years as part of our short sea shipping ambitions,” shared Siv Remøy-Vangen, managing director of NES. Her remarks highlight the strategic significance of the partnership, which underscores NES’s commitment to bolstering its presence in the competitive maritime sector.

Wilson ASA, renowned for its dedication to innovation and efficiency, emphasized the importance of leveraging Norwegian expertise for this ambitious project. “In a newbuilding project as significant as this for Wilson, it is great to make use of Norwegian expertise and technical knowledge through NES. It’s also a pleasure to utilize a local and competitive supplier,” noted Henrik Orth, director at Wilson Ship Management.

Deliveries of the newbuild vessels are scheduled to occur between 2026 and 2028, underscoring the long-term vision and meticulous planning driving this initiative. For NES, this project is not merely a business deal but a milestone reflecting the growing global demand for innovative, sustainable solutions in maritime logistics.
