Pronav Adds First FSRU to LNG Fleet Under Management

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has expanded its portfolio into Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) for the first time, with its Hamburg-based subsidiary Pronav taking over the technical management of the Turquoise P.

Expanding LNG Capabilities

The Turquoise P, built in 2019 and owned by Pardus Energy Ltd., is stationed at the Etki Liman LNG terminal on Türkiye’s Aegean coast near Izmir. The vessel measures 294 meters in length and can store up to 170,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas. Its role is to receive LNG, store it, and convert it back into gaseous form before it enters the national gas grid.

For the Izmir region, the Etki Liman terminal provides a crucial supply point, especially during times of peak consumption or seasonal demand shifts. The constant availability and reliability of this infrastructure is critical for the region’s energy security.

A Milestone for Pronav

“This is a milestone for Pronav and the entire Schulte Group. We are proud that our many years of expertise in ship management of LNG carriers and our flawless safety record have enabled us to take on the technical management of Turquoise P,” said Martin Roolvink, Managing Director of Pronav.

He noted that LNG operations carry some of the strictest requirements in shipping, making safety and quality essential in managing these vessels.

Limited Global Presence of FSRUs

Globally, there are just over 50 FSRUs in operation, and only a handful are managed by third-party companies. Pronav’s entry into this niche reflects its long-standing experience in LNG vessel management, covering various ship types from dual-fuel MEGI and X-DF designs to Q-Flex and conventional steam-powered carriers with both Moss-type and membrane tanks.

Over the past 25 years, the company has earned recognition among energy majors, LNG charterers, and terminal operators for its focus on safety, reliability, and efficiency. Its move into FSRU management broadens its role within a sector that continues to grow alongside global demand for flexible natural gas supply solutions.
