Recycled wind components shipped by Blue Water Shipping

Recently, Blue Water managed the loading of nine restored wind turbines at Port of Esbjerg. The cargo is being transported to Bari in Italy by sea. The wind turbines have been restored and are now ready to be reused and operated in Italy. At the Port of Esbjerg, the stevedore team from Blue Water and the customer were responsible for preparing the goods, bringing them to the quay side and loading the ship. Blue Water also acted agents for the vessel.

The restored wind turbines have a blade diameter of 80 meters. Under optimal wind conditions, the wind turbine is able to produce around 4,380 MWh annually. It has a lifespan of minimum 20 years. Today, between 85% and 95% of a wind turbine can be recycled. However, many investors choose new components, meaning that the market for recycled components is filled with potential to become even more sustainable.

The cargo was loaded on MV “Annegret” and was shipped in February 2023.

“Our people have absolutely delivered what was expected. They did a punctual job with great focus on safety, and the coordination between the terminals, agency and the stevedores has been flawless”, says Jacob Sund Thomsen, Manager Projects Port Services, Blue Water Esbjerg.
