Today the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, the professional body for the commercial shipping industry worldwide, has formally appointed Robert Hill FICS as their new Institute Director.

Having functioned as the Interim Director for the past 9 months, the permanent role was offered to Robert by the Remuneration Committee last week, following agreement by the Executive Council.

“I am delighted to announce that Robert Hill FICS has accepted our offer for the role of Director with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. I am personally hugely grateful for all his support over the last year while he held the Interim position. He has worked closely with me and the Executive Council to help bring our ship around and we are in a significantly better position with both our finances and our governance. Robert has always remained extremely professional, communicated on all important matters, and got on with managing the business of the organisation. He continues to work in the very best interests of the Institute.” Susan Oatway FICS – Chair, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Robert Hill (pictured) is enthusiastic about the future potential of his role, “As a Fellow of the Institute, it is a great honour and privilege to be appointed Director but indeed I also recognise the enormous responsibility that comes with the position. The Institute is 110 years young, and I believe there is still a great opportunity to develop and grow even further in the future.

I look forward to being able to continue to work with our senior officers, councils, committees, branches, Fellows and Members to realise the aspirations of the Institute and ensure that we continue to be the leading professional body for the commercial shipping industry worldwide.” Robert Hill FICS – Director, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Kevin Shakesheff FICS, the Institute’s 58th President for the next two years says, “It is with great pleasure I welcome Robert as our new Director. Robert has gained great respect from the Members of the Institute worldwide over many years. His knowledge, skill and understanding of our Institute will be significant to our continuous global growth. I am sure all our Members will join me in wishing him every success for the future.” Kevin Shakesheff FICS – President, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Robert Hill joined the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers as Head of Membership in February 2015 after nearly 30 years in the shipping industry in England, Germany, Australia as well as his home country of New Zealand. He has mainly been involved in liner shipping and port agency, including senior management positions for ship agency companies in New Zealand and a liner trade management role in Sydney, Australia. He has held the interim Director position since September.

Robert has been a Member of the Institute since 1996, branch secretary of the Australia and New Zealand branch for six years and held the position of Chairman of the International Membership Committee 2013-15.
