Roll Group Celebrates Addition of RollBarge 1 to Its Expanding Fleet

Batam, Indonesia – September 3, 2024 – Roll Group has proudly welcomed its newest asset, the RollBarge 1, to its fleet in a ceremony at the ASL Yard in Batam, Indonesia. This delivery marks a significant milestone for the company as it unveils its first barge, expanding its capabilities in the heavy cargo transportation sector. The christening of RollBarge 1 was graced by Gonnie van Seumeren, accompanied by her husband, Frans van Seumeren, one of Roll Group’s founding partners.

At the ceremony, Roll Group’s CEO Peter Rondhuis took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to key project collaborators, including Viva Energy, McDermott, ASL Yard, and BRS Brokering. “Together, we have not only created a valuable new asset for our fleet,” Rondhuis stated, “but also enhanced our portfolio with a solution that improves efficiency and makes a significant contribution to our environmental preservation targets.” His words reflect the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.

RollBarge 1 introduces a new level of versatility to the Roll Group fleet, being specifically designed to float in and out of the company’s semi-submersible ships. This unique capability allows the barge to perform beach landings in shallow waters, making it an ideal solution for delivering high-value modules to remote locations. Such flexibility eliminates the need for costly and environmentally disruptive dredging operations, providing a more sustainable option that aligns with Roll Group’s green agenda. Clients can now expect reduced costs and minimized environmental impact thanks to these forward-thinking features.

Looking ahead, Roll Group has ambitious plans for growth. The company is set to enhance its asset base further in 2024 with the addition of a second Gantry portal crane boasting a lifting capacity of over 4,000 tons. This newbuild crane presents a cutting-edge alternative to conventional large ringer cranes, promising to cut operational time and carbon emissions by more than 50%. It is the second significant lifting solution Roll Group has introduced within the past two years, highlighting its dedication to advancing its capabilities.

Roll Group’s expansion doesn’t stop there. In 2025, the company will add two more deck carriers to its fleet, further strengthening its position in the heavy cargo sector. Additionally, an investment in 300 more axle lines—including both conventional trailers and Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs)—is already in the pipeline, with more expansions anticipated in the near future.

Roll Group continues to position itself as a leader in the heavy transport and lifting industry. With a comprehensive approach that combines both sea and land solutions, the company prides itself on offering “Factory to Foundation” services. Its extensive engineering expertise, innovative asset base, and adaptive strategies ensure the safe handling of heavy cargo across various sectors, including Oil & Gas and renewable energies. The Roll Group’s diverse fleet—comprising dock-type vessels capable of Ro-Ro, Flo-Flo, and Lo-Lo operations, along with deck carriers—sets the stage for the company to handle any challenge the industry presents.

The addition of RollBarge 1 signals not just growth but also a forward-looking strategy that emphasizes both efficiency and sustainability. As the maritime and logistics landscape evolves, Roll Group is clearly intent on steering the course toward innovative, responsible solutions.
