SAL Ships Monopiles for Japanese OWF

SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Lone is currently transporting nine monopiles for the Akita Offshore Wind Farm Project, the first large-scale offshore wind farm in Japan.

SAL has been booked to transport the heaviest monopiles with weights up to 883 metric tonnes and lengths of over 78 meters from Rotterdam to Akita port.

Akita Noshiro offshore wind farm project comprises the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 139MW. It is being developed off the coast of Japan.

The wind farms will be located at Akita and Noshiro ports in the coastal zone of Akita prefecture. The total project area of both wind farms extends across 730ha in the Tohoku, Japan.

Akita prefecture was selected as it offers favourable wind conditions compared to other prefectures in the country.
