Sarens, renowned globally for its expertise in heavy lifting and engineered transport, has played a pivotal role in the ongoing green energy transformation at Swiss Krono’s facility in Sully-sur-Loire, France. The project is part of an ambitious drive to reduce the plant’s reliance on gas by replacing up to 90% of its consumption with renewable biomass. This shift aligns with Swiss Krono’s commitment to sustainability in producing high-quality construction materials and wood products.
The green energy overhaul at the Sully-sur-Loire site involves extensive modernization and is spearheaded by Vyncke Clean Energy Technology, the client responsible for overhauling the facility’s energy systems. Central to this renovation is the installation of a new boiler that will enable the use of biomass as an energy source, significantly cutting down the plant’s carbon emissions and boosting its eco-friendly profile.
Sarens’ role in the project required the careful lifting of the PCBR2 smokestack, an integral part of the new energy infrastructure. Weighing in at 18.3 tons and boasting a diameter of five meters, the smokestack posed a significant challenge due to the limited space and the operational nature of the plant. The surrounding infrastructure and active conditions necessitated precision and careful planning to avoid any disruptions to plant operations or nearby structures.
To tackle this challenge, Sarens deployed the Demag AC 5.160-1, a reliable and powerful all-terrain crane known for its compact design and maneuverability. The lift, executed with expert coordination, was successfully completed within a single day, showcasing Sarens’ efficiency and technical proficiency. Despite the complex nature of the operation and potential constraints posed by the live environment, Sarens ensured that all protocols were adhered to, prioritizing safety and minimizing any risks associated with the task.
Sarens’ contribution to the Swiss Krono project is set to continue for the next three months. During this period, Sarens will conduct a series of precision lifts that are crucial to the completion of the renovation.
