Sarens Triumphs with Spectacular Bridge Installation in Bettembourg, Luxembourg

Bettembourg train station in Luxembourg, Sarens embarked on a monumental project. Last week, the Sarens team faced the formidable challenge of replacing an aged 1975 prestressed concrete bridge with a new, state-of-the-art curved steel Bowstring structure. This new bridge, a marvel of modern engineering, spans the railway tracks without any supports, epitomizing cutting-edge design and precision.

Working above train tracks, balancing safety and efficiency. The Sarens team, known affectionately as Team Blue, did just that. After more than a week of intense work, which included the meticulous demolition of the old bridge, the new structure was successfully installed. This wasn’t just any bridge replacement; it was an engineering feat. The innovative supporting mechanism, specifically designed for this operation, allowed the new bridge to be seamlessly installed between the catenaries, showcasing Sarens’ ingenuity and technical prowess.

The new bridge boasts a total length of 148 meters, with the main arch spanning 80.30 meters. The arch itself stands tall at 22.50 meters, and the entire steel framework weighs a staggering 1,300 tonnes. These figures are a testament to the scale and complexity of the project, illustrating the sheer amount of planning, precision, and effort required.

This project wasn’t just about Sarens; it was a collaborative effort. Sarens extended its heartfelt congratulations and thanks to its clients, MBB – Metallic Bridges of Belgium s.a. and TRALUX Construction, for their trust and partnership. This teamwork ensured the project’s success, blending Sarens’ expertise with the clients’ vision and requirements.
