Search for Survivors from SEACOR Liftboat in Louisiana

Rescuers are searching for the missing crew members of a liftboat/jack-up barge after it capsized in stormy weather off the US state of Louisiana on Tuesday afternoon.

The US Coast Guard confirmed one person was found dead and six others had been rescued. 12 people are missing. A spokesman said the search team was “giving it all we got” but described conditions as “challenging”.

There were reportedly 18 people on board the SEACOR Power, and today the US Coast Guard said it had so far rescued six.

The self-propelled jack-up crane barge /liftboat capsized about eight miles (12km) from Port Fourchon on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for Houston-based marine transportation company SEACOR Marine has identified the vessel as belonging to the company.
