SEFE Securing Energy for Europe and marine infrastructure provider Höegh Evi have entered into a strategic partnership to establish international supply chains for clean hydrogen. The two companies recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to analyze the feasibility of various supply corridors, with the goal of delivering clean hydrogen to Germany and other European locations.
Under the agreement, SEFE will focus on securing the supply of clean hydrogen, overseeing both the upstream procurement of ammonia and its downstream distribution through the German hydrogen core grid. Meanwhile, Höegh Evi will provide the necessary transport and import infrastructure, utilizing floating terminals to facilitate the conversion of ammonia into hydrogen for industrial use.
Building a Clean Hydrogen Future
The partnership aligns with Germany’s ambitious energy transition goals, aiming to provide a sustainable, cost-competitive supply of hydrogen to industrial customers. The collaboration will explore sourcing ammonia from global markets, transporting it via specialized vessels, and delivering it to floating import terminals stationed along Germany’s Baltic and North Sea coasts. These terminals will be equipped with Höegh Evi’s cutting-edge ammonia-to-hydrogen cracking technology, offering a scalable solution to meet rising hydrogen demand.
In addition to supplying the German market, the partnership aims to identify potential floating terminal sites across Europe, positioning clean hydrogen as a cornerstone of the continent’s decarbonization strategy.
Industry Leaders Driving the Energy Transition
Hamead Ahrary, Chief Sales Officer at SEFE, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering clean hydrogen solutions. “In our relentless quest to provide customers with competitive clean hydrogen, we are pleased to partner with Höegh Evi to explore technical and economic opportunities within the supply chain. With their pioneering floating import terminals and our deep market knowledge, we are well-positioned to drive the energy transition.”
Echoing this sentiment, Erik Nyheim, CEO of Höegh Evi, highlighted the significance of global supply chain development. “Establishing international corridors for clean hydrogen is a major step in advancing Germany and Europe’s energy goals. SEFE’s investments in infrastructure, combined with our expertise in floating terminal technology, will create new pathways for sustainable energy.”
A Comprehensive Hydrogen Supply Chain
As the demand for clean energy continues to rise, the SEFE-Höegh Evi partnership aims to provide dispatchable and baseload-ready hydrogen to industrial clients. SEFE’s subsidiary GASCADE will play a key role in integrating the hydrogen supply within Germany’s core grid, ensuring a seamless connection between global suppliers and local consumers.
The partnership marks a pivotal moment in the development of hydrogen infrastructure, with both companies committed to creating a reliable and cost-effective supply chain that supports Europe’s decarbonization objectives.
