Some Light in Shipbuilding Lull

We have all witnessed a lull in newbuilding activity, a trend also noticed during the 2009-2010 crisis. But, this week some new build vessels have been added to the order book!

According to Splash247, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has officially contracted four new 62,000dwt multipurpose heavylift vessels to be constructed with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard. The total price for the four vessels is approx. $119m. and they are scheduled for delivery in 2022. CMES said the new vessels will help them expand their breakbulk operations.

In addition, CMES ordered two VLCC 307,000 dwt at Dalian Shipbuildingfor delivery 3Q of 2022 for a price of $84.5 a piece. In the dry sector, Mitsui OSK agreed for two Kamsarmax with YAMIC (Yangzijiang and Mitsui J/V) and two Ultramax with DACKS (Dalian Kawasaki) with deliveries scheduled for the second half 2021.
