Barge Master, a Dutch motion compensation systems developer, announced on Tuesday that their Barge Master T40 motion compensated knuckle boom crane received the Spotlight on New Technology Award for innovative technology at this year’s OTC.

These systems compensate vessel motions, creating a platform that is not moving with respect to the stationary fixed world. The systems are designed to increase the safety and workability of offshore lifting operations.

According to Barge Masters’ specs, The T40 system is able to compensate for roll, pitch and heave motions of a knuckle boom crane. The system’s small footprint of only 4.8 m x 3.7 m makes it suitable for most vessels. It enables cargo and personnel transfer with complete motion compensation for waves up to 3 meters. It has a lifting capacity of 15 mT at a 10 meter radius or 5 mT at a 20 meter radius.

The T40 was sold to Royal Wagenborg and installed on the vessel “Kroonborg” for a ten-year NAM/Shell charter for maintaining gas platforms in the North Sea. Reportedly, the first year was a great success with high workability and increase of production resulting in significant cost reductions.

Martijn Koppert, CEO of Barge Master, said the company was honored to receive the award and that was grateful for the recognition from OTC’s Spotlight Award Committee for their work. He carried on to thank the Committee for the award and invited all those interested to see the crane operate in their booth at the OTC’s Holland Pavilion.

The Spotlight on New Technology Award is exclusively awarded to OTC exhibitors and showcases the latest and most advanced technologies in the offshore industry.
