Stora Enso, a major global player in renewable packaging, biomaterials, and wood products, is ramping up its operations at the Port of Hanko, Finland, in a move set to quadruple its cargo volumes. The company has announced plans to channel increasing volumes through Hanko, with new traffic to Germany slated to begin in early 2025.
The Port of Hanko, Finland’s southernmost port, has a long-standing history of handling forest products, and this development cements its reputation as a key logistics hub for the sector. At the heart of this expansion is Euroports Hanko, the terminal operator selected to manage the surge in cargo. Known for its expertise across the supply chain, Euroports promises to deliver not just reliability but also an environmentally responsible approach to logistics, a growing priority in today’s supply chains.
Petteri Sammalisto, Strategic Development Director at Euroports Finland, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “Our long history and deep understanding of forest product logistics enable us to provide unmatched value to our customers,” he said. Sammalisto also emphasized the strategic significance of the expansion. “This strengthens our position as the leading partner for forest product exports from Finland, and we’re excited to support sustainable growth in the industry.”
This collaboration is a joint effort involving rail, shipping, and port activities, aligning multiple transportation modes to streamline operations. By leveraging such integrated solutions, Euroports Hanko is not only scaling up operations but also reinforcing its role as a pivotal player in Finland’s logistics landscape.
For Stora Enso, the decision aligns with its broader strategy of fostering sustainable logistics practices while meeting rising demand in its core markets. As environmental concerns continue to shape the logistics industry, partnerships like this highlight the importance of efficiency and sustainability in navigating global supply chains.
