Madrid, November 19, 2024—In a groundbreaking move for maritime innovation and sustainability, SUARDIAZ Shipping Lines has announced the addition of a dual-fuel LNG-powered Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessel to its fleet. This marks a significant milestone not just for the company but also for Spain, making SUARDIAZ the first Spanish operator to integrate such cutting-edge technology in its operations.
This new vessel, boasting a capacity of 5,500 Car Equivalent Units (CEUs), is the result of a strategic partnership with Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), a global leader in sustainable shipping. The collaboration guarantees SUARDIAZ the necessary tonnage to meet the demands of its current and future routes, with delivery of the newbuild expected in the second quarter of 2027.
The vessel forms part of SUARDIAZ’s broader fleet renewal strategy, a program spanning the last five years and already exceeding $200 million in investment. According to SUARDIAZ Group CEO Juan Riva, the company’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency lies at the heart of this initiative. “We are dedicated to offering our clients a more efficient and sustainable service. By adopting dual-fuel LNG propulsion, we actively support the decarbonization of the automotive supply chain while addressing the need for increased cargo capacity,” Riva stated.
The introduction of the dual-fuel LNG vessel will enhance service for SUARDIAZ’s long-standing automotive sector clients while also benefiting other customers, including freight forwarders and traders. Its size and advanced design make it well-suited for transporting High & Heavy cargo, further improving route offerings between Northern Europe and North Africa, as well as other regions based on market demand.
This new asset complements SUARDIAZ’s existing fleet, which recently welcomed the m/v Asturias. Together, these vessels bolster the company’s capacity to transport over 25,000 trailers, 270,000 vehicles, and 85,000 tons of machinery and project cargo annually. This step underscores SUARDIAZ Group’s commitment to sustainable maritime transport and innovative fleet modernization.
