Subsea7 wins Norway gas export contract from Vår Energi

Subsea7 has secured a substantial offshore contract from Vår Energi for the Goliat Gas Export Project in the Barents Sea, marking the first award under a newly signed strategic partnership between the companies and OneSubsea.

The project will support gas exports from the Goliat field to the Hammerfest LNG plant at Melkøya through the existing Snøhvit pipeline network offshore Norway.

The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation work for a 12.7 kilometre 10 inch uninsulated carbon steel pipeline. The scope also includes installation of subsea infrastructure required to connect the gas export system safely to the existing network.

Subsea7 said project management and engineering activities will begin immediately from its Stavanger office, while offshore installation campaigns are scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

The company classifies the award as a substantial contract, placing the value between $150 million and $300 million.

For offshore logistics providers and subsea contractors operating in the Norwegian Continental Shelf market, the award reflects continued investment in gas infrastructure despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding Europe’s long term energy transition. In many ways, projects like Goliat resemble adding new lanes to an already busy highway. The infrastructure already exists, but capacity and connectivity still need to improve.

The contract is also the first operational step under a strategic partnership agreement signed on 26 March 2026 between Vår Energi, Subsea7 and OneSubsea.

Erik Femsteinevik, Vice President for Subsea7 Norway, said the project demonstrates the level of trust already established between the companies.

“We are proud to be awarded the Goliat Gas Export Project, which represents the first contract awarded under our new strategic partnership agreement with Vår Energi,” he said.

Femsteinevik added that early engagement between the companies creates “a strong position to create value and deliver a high quality solution for this important development.”

The Barents Sea continues to attract infrastructure investment tied to Norwegian gas exports, particularly as operators seek to maximize use of existing processing and pipeline systems connected to Melkøya and the Snøhvit network.
