Time to Roll!

One week after our latest update, the 93-metre column is ready to be rolled on board the Roll Group vessel in Kuantan Port.

This 93-metre long column weighs approximately 778.1 tonnes and took almost 11 hours to travel a 6km journey from the KNM fabrication workshop in Gebeng to Kuantan Port, Malaysia.

The project involves deugro as cargo owner who used Worldwide as their agents, KNM and the Kuantan Port team (HSE, Port Police, Operation, Civil Engineering) to complete this mission. The cargo will be loaded onto a Roll Group vessel.

“To load this oversized cargo, we get to see our marine pilot expertly maneuvering a multifunctional heavy lift transport vessel “RollDock” by Roll Group to the “Mediterranean mooring” position. According to our Chief Pilot, this is the first time in more than ten years a vessel has been moored perpendicular to the wharf with its stern surface facing the wharf,” says Kuantan Port.

To position the cargo parallel to the vessel, the ground team had to turn the cargo 90-degrees in a very limited space. Then they had to wait for hours until the tide was at the desired level to roll the cargo onto the vessel. The overall operation took 6 hours to complete.

“The chance to handle such an unusual and delicate operation was a meaningful experience for the staff of Kuantan Port. We are honoured and glad to get everyone involved connected to this golden opportunity. As we bid farewell to the 93-metre beast that is now on its way to Vietnam, we are looking forward to the next record-breaking heavy cargo to roll in once again to Kuantan Port.” says Kuantan Port.
