United European Car Carriers (UECC) has entered into a forward-thinking partnership with Daphne Technology to implement the PureMetrics™ emissions monitoring system on UECC’s latest vehicle carrier, Auto Aspire. This collaboration represents a significant step toward sustainability for both UECC and Daphne Technology, underscoring their commitment to reducing environmental impact in the maritime industry through precise, real-time emissions tracking.
PureMetrics™ is set for operational deployment in early 2025 on the Auto Aspire, a state-of-the-art vehicle carrier built in 2022 with a triple-engine setup, including one main engine and two auxiliary engines. The system is designed to provide accurate, granular emissions data, which will empower UECC to surpass existing regulatory standards, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce its dedication to a greener supply chain for automotive logistics.
Dr. Mario Michan, CEO and founder of Daphne Technology, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, particularly in light of the European Union’s evolving emissions regulations. “Reducing emissions is essential to minimizing the environmental impact of maritime transport, especially under EU ETS regulations. With PureMetrics™, UECC gains precise emissions insights, helping them exceed compliance standards, control costs, and support a sustainable automotive supply chain,” Dr. Michan stated.
For UECC, this advanced emissions tracking is not just about compliance but about understanding and controlling environmental impact at a deeper level. “You cannot manage what you cannot measure,” remarked Daniel Gent, UECC’s Energy & Sustainability Manager. “This project with Daphne Technology will enable UECC to understand exactly where and when emissions occur within our operation. This allows us to move away from archaic emissions reporting and will drive data-led decisions. It is an exciting landmark in our journey to maintain the most sustainable fleet in the European RoRo sector.”
In addition to facilitating regulatory compliance, PureMetrics™ equips UECC with the ability to navigate growing pressures from automotive manufacturers to reduce emissions across their supply chains. The real-time data offered by PureMetrics™ allows UECC to establish emissions baselines, optimize vessel performance, and potentially lower operational costs, all while supporting a more sustainable approach to automotive transport.
This collaboration between UECC and Daphne Technology illustrates the pivotal role that innovation and data can play in reducing the maritime sector’s environmental footprint. By adopting cutting-edge emissions monitoring technology, UECC is not only better positioned to meet current regulations but also to future-proof its operations in an industry increasingly shaped by sustainability commitments and environmental considerations.
