Young Forwarder Network (YFN) Moves Online

The British International Freight Association (BIFA), the trade association for UK freight forwarding and logistics companies, launched its Young Forwarder Network (YFN) in March 2019. It has now launched activities, events and competitions online, including a virtual bake-off.

YFN is aimed at supporting individuals that have recently joined the logistics sector and now has regional groups throughout the UK.

BIFA’s recent virtual Bake-Off marked the relaunch of the trade association’s YFN online. Of course, with it being a virtual event, the judging was all about the ‘look’ of the baked item rather than the taste.

Winner: Katie-Louise Thompson-Friend, the Woodland Group

The winner, Katie-Louise Thompson-Friend a customer service coordinator, at the Woodland Group, baked a cake in the shape and colour of one of her employer’s trucks, adding the company’s slogan in white icing.

Katie-Louise beat off strong competition from runners-up Kasia Kowalska-Trela, logistics co-ordinator, DSV Air & Sea Ltd and Katie Yewdall freight operations executive, Ligentia.

Carl Hobbis, BIFA’s training development manager comments: “Initially, we were obviously mindful that businesses – including ourselves – have had many new challenges due to Covid-19, and more pressing priorities.

The virtual Bake Off was a great way to kick start the YFN and was the first of various online events that will be held including web-based quizzes, guest interviews, training masterclasses, Q&A sessions and so forth.”
