Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) has officially ventured into the multi-purpose heavy lift vessel sector by securing a significant contract with Chipolbrok (Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company). The deal involves the construction of 2+2 38,000 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift vessels, marking a strategic move for ZPMC as it expands its portfolio into a new segment.
The vessels, each featuring three 250-ton cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 500 tons, are tailored for demanding project cargo. These ships are designed with versatility in mind, boasting two extra-long cargo holds, the longest stretching up to 76.8 meters. Their full-access open decks make them especially suited for transporting large machinery, equipment, and oversized project cargo, enhancing their appeal for complex logistics operations.
Notably, these vessels incorporate a movable second deck that can be adjusted at varying heights, providing flexibility for handling equipment of different sizes. The ships also include energy-saving devices and high-voltage shore power systems, reflecting a modern approach to environmental responsibility. Combined with an efficient hull design, these features contribute to reducing energy consumption and lowering emissions.
Chipolbrok, a company with over 70 years in the industry, is a key player in the global heavy lift and project cargo market. Founded in 1951 as the first joint venture in the People’s Republic of China, the company has grown from a modest fleet of four ships to an operation of 31 heavy lift vessels with a total capacity exceeding 1,090,000 DWT. The company’s liner services span major global ports, making it a formidable name in the sector.
This partnership with ZPMC is expected to bolster Chipolbrok’s capabilities, enabling the company to handle even larger and more complex project cargoes. For ZPMC, this venture signifies a bold entry into a specialized and demanding market, highlighting its ambition to diversify and capture new opportunities within the maritime industry.
