The Port of Karlshamn, one of Sweden’s largest and deepest ports in the southeast. Boasting six port areas with over 3 kilometers of quay and more than 1,000,000 square meters of surface area, Karlshamn offers extensive facilities for handling various types of cargo and vessels.

Situated in the south Baltic Sea, the port benefits from a short and easily navigable sea approach, making it an ideal destination for vessels of various sizes. With the capacity to accommodate HandySize and small PanMax vessels for dry goods and tankers up to approximately 100,000 deadweight tons (dwt), Karlshamn ensures efficient operations for a wide range of maritime activities.

Forestry products, liquid petroleum products, RoRo, containers, and project cargo are among the main products handled at the Port of Karlshamn. The port’s impressive storage capacity includes 50,000 square meters in warehouses and 500,000 cubic meters for petroleum products, biofuels, and chemicals, catering to diverse cargo requirements.

Despite its long-standing tradition in shipping and trade, Karlshamn has experienced remarkable growth in cargo turnover over the past two decades, positioning itself as a progressive national hub with strategic importance for intermodal traffic between south Scandinavia and East Europe/CIS. The RoPax- and RoRo- traffic between Karlshamn and Klaipeda, served by DFDS Seaways, represents a significant cargo route linking Sweden with the Baltic countries and Russia.

Furthermore, Karlshamn has the potential to emerge as a prominent container port, supported by infrastructure such as a large Liebherr 550 mobile crane and a water depth of 11 meters, accommodating container feeder vessels trading in the Baltic Sea. Its strategic geographical location, combined with robust industrial presence in southeast Sweden, positions Karlshamn as a gateway for both regional container flows overseas and the expanding Short Sea traffic in the Baltic Sea.

The port’s rail terminal, equipped to handle trains of more than 600 meters in length and offering 25,000 square meters of fenced storage area, enhances its intermodal connectivity and logistical capabilities. Moreover, Karlshamn’s location outside the city center ensures smooth traffic flow by road and rail, minimizing disruption to inhabited areas and providing ample space for expansion.

With its strategic location at the crossroads between Scandinavia and emerging markets, the Port of Karlshamn plays a pivotal role in facilitating trade and fostering economic growth. As one of the ten largest Shipping and Logistics clusters in Sweden, Karlshamn’s maritime sector, complemented by shipping agents, logistics providers, and academic institutions, contributes significantly to the city’s vitality and prosperity.
