Hamburg-based heavy lift carrier United Heavy Lift has announced that Managing Director Lars Bonnesen will leave the company on December 31, 2025, following the sale of his shares to the United Shipping Group.

The move marks a significant leadership change at the carrier, which is preparing for its next strategic phase centered on newbuilding programs and additional investments. Alongside Bonnesen, Christian Monsted has also sold his shares in the company, though he will continue working with United Marguisa Lines.
Leadership Departure Linked to Strategic Shift
According to UHL, the company is entering a new development phase with a strong focus on fleet expansion and future growth. Bonnesen has decided not to participate in this direction, instead pursuing projects outside the shipping industry.
Bonnesen, who joined UHL in 2019, has been instrumental in expanding the company’s fleet and global footprint. During his tenure, the carrier strengthened its partnerships and weathered challenging market conditions in the heavy lift and project cargo sector.
Contributions Over Six Years
Reflecting on his time with UHL, Bonnesen said, “I am proud to have been part of United Heavy Lift’s journey since 2019. It has been a great pleasure to work alongside talented colleagues and partners in developing the fleet, strengthening our international position, and building new partnerships. I look back with great satisfaction on what we have achieved together, and I wish UHL and the team every success in the exciting next phase. For my own part, I look forward to embarking on new projects.”
The management of UHL acknowledged his impact, noting that Bonnesen’s energy, clear perspective, and ability to identify opportunities had shaped the company’s growth. His leadership is seen as central to consolidating UHL’s standing in the competitive heavy lift and project cargo market.
Looking Ahead
The company emphasized that while Bonnesen will depart the industry, his role in its development remains a significant part of its history. UHL confirmed that its strategic plans remain unchanged, with investments and newbuilding projects forming the backbone of its next phase.
